KEVIN VILLERT - Editor-in-chief of Tais-toi, sois beau

A contributing collaboration review with Madam Alexandra E.  from  a man amongst the fashion runways on the other side of the pacific - America ( New York).  Kevin Villert ( Editor-in chief of Tais-toi, sois beau) shares his fashion thoughts on the Australian style culture. xo.

Dear Madam Alexandra E.

When I think of Australia, words like sun-drenched, beach, blonde surfers, aboriginals and the Sydney Opera House come to my mind immediately. But while I love Aussie designers like Alice McCall, Sass & Bide and Dion Lee, the Fashion scene in Australia is quite under-exposed on my side of the Pacific. However don’t get me wrong, it’s changing and in the good way. For example, TopShop asked Alice McCall to collaborate on two successful capsule collections while Sass & Bide is becoming an established label in the country of her Majesty. A brand like Ksubi has found a large web of stockists in the US. And this is just a short-list to demonstrate that buyers and editors from the North are slowly and progressively turning their heads to the Australian fashion industry.

So, what does it mean? Why such interest now? The Australian lifestyle is usually described as laid back by most, and it translates into the clothes. To survive in the sun-drenched streets of Melbourne, my only hope would be to wear comfortable and stylish clothes for a complete sun-bath. However, having never been to Australia, my reflection is mostly based on street style snapshots taken through the lenses of Facehunter or The Sartorialist. Of course these people are probably among the 2% most stylish Australian but largely enough to give us an idea of what’s the Australian fashion in terms of culture and design.

Compared to other cities like Paris, Milan or NY where we seem to be more focused on sophistication, provocation and edge, Australian designers differentiate themselves with enthusiasm. My favorite designers are Alice McCall and Dion Lee, and I recently fell in love with Karla Spetic and Alexi Freeman.

Their enthusiastic approach to design outfits is recognizable by these modern and architectural cuts to ease and flatter the body, and by the punchiness of the colors and mix of colors that are used as if someone exploded the Jelly Beans factory. But what could come out tacky, is definitely not. It seems that the designers have a natural talent to design chic, playful, wearable day and night, and flirty outfits. Dion Lee, for example, is really having a fantastic year. No doubt he will end up showing next year either in London or in NY, perhaps, even Paris. His unique vision of sculpture and construction generates intrigue and attention. His work is both architectural and artful; innovating what is womenswear and actually making women desire to wear his outfits.

His futuristic-boho is well articulated with this magical palette of purple. And, it seems Australia has a large resource of pattern-making wizards.

ARM CANDY, BAG WORTHY

This season, the arm candy (hand-bags) offering is catering to all fashion lovers, in all shapes and sizes.  Whether you're a self confessed bag - a - holic or an occasional arm candy  follower, be sure to immaculately drape yourself in something 'bag worthy' before you leave the house!

Tune into the designs of Regina Garde, choose from arm candy creations with long straps, mid straps and short straps.  Studded, textured and simply applicable to all outfits xox.

Be adventurous, be daring and be willing! - I say this, only because secretly our true style vibes are often discreetly reflected in our talent for accessorising.  I love the days of  throwing on a pair of dull denims, dull top, dull flats and an absolutely 'not so dull' arm candy. Styling with minimal fuss, but still maintaining a sense of stylish dignity xoxo.

Everything's The Same - Tom Reddaway.

Spring Summer 2011 - the emergence of male fashion styling. Everything's The Same is a label based in Brisbane catering for the rare male fashion forms wandering amongst the sea of textiles, designs and man bags. Its designer and owner, Tom Reddaway.

The S/S 2011 collection from Everything's The Same, dictates a combination of simple, wearable pieces and striking displays of soft twisting origami style tactics.

The collection is definately a depiction of the 'man' inside every 'man', with each design accentuating the bold male form. The collection appears almost beast like, compared to the saturation of the metro-sexual designs swamping the fashion world at present.

KOBI LEVI - Creative Shoe Artist

KOBI LEVI - FOOTWEAR ARTIST

If there was such a world where shoe lovers could succumb to every possible 'shoe imagination',then this man would have to be the person to turn it into a visual reality.

Introducing to the circuit of shoe design connoisseurs; Mr Kobi Levi. Mr Kobi Levi hails from the destination of Tel Aviv, Israel but is constantly travelling for his love of shoe creations. Here in this 'world away' destination, Mr Kobi Levi nurtures his creativity in an extremely artistically real sense. Combining the lover in every woman's life.. the 'shoe' and the 'living' ( the everyday things in life).

Mr Kobi Levi has that talent whereby the difference between you and him, would be; his sixth sense talent of realistic interpretation. In the 'eye of the beholder'... in Mr Kobi Levi's eyes, he sees more than what you see, instead he sees not only the external, but he always visualises the internal and the depth. From what he sees..he thinks, he imagines and he creates.

His designs are hailed as artistic works of art, although all designs are very much so wearable. Each footform design is a mimic of the life like objects, re-created in the form of a shoe, and interpreted from the artistic mind of Mr Kobi Levi.

Mr Kobi Levi is one of those rare artistic souls with exceptional interpretational vision. He proclaims that he cannot live without "creativity, excitement, curiosity and footwear" xo. His goal, is to continue designing, and conceptualising into reality his shoe creations and to continue to form collaborations with other artistic minds ("fashion designers, pop stars, theatres etc....").

Every now and again the vary rare and exceptionally artistic talented minds surface to experience our appreciation.... thank - you Mr Kobi Levi for inspiring and evoking thought ( a smile, a story, an emotion) through your designs xoxo.

Fashion lovers, embrace, interpret and simply appreciate the designs of Mr Kobi Levi xx.

POPPY KING -LIPSTICK QUEEN....... "JEAN QUEEN"

Poppy King - Creator and Director of Lipstick Queen

I define wearing lipstick as the 'cherry on top of the pie', the end result to that perfect feeling or look, the quick pick me up on those days when you look less than how you were the day before.

Applying lipstick is without a doubt the 'silent' magic miracle for whatever the style any fashionista is wanting to achieve, and who else would know more about this silent beauty miracle than that of the Queen herself, Poppy King, the Lipstick Queen.

Poppy King is seated on her own throne, in her palace, she is the reigning 'Lipstick Queen'. With over more than a decade of experience in the beauty industry, Poppy King is immersing herself in the one thing that feeds her intelligence and her intelligence feeds it, similar to that of 'food for the soul' (I'm pretty sure the world of lipstick is the delectable 'food' to Poppy King's soul).

Lipsticks have been the constant relief, and recently, the success for Poppy Kings' presence in the land of where many fashion & beauty Kings and Queens reside (America). These days, Poppy King can be found heading her very successful business, Lipstick Queen ( a rightful title indeed xo) in America.

Although oceans and islands away from her country of birth (Australia), Poppy King is a true example to the testament of overcoming the 'hiccups' in your life (the past events of her Poppy King brand in Australia) to rise on top and thrive successfully in a land which many are unable to penetrate a successful business in. This indeed, is a true example of her dedication to her first love... Lipstick Queen.

The Lipstick Queen namesake is currently surging forth, in providing women of America with desirable 'lipstick, gloss and cosmetic' solutions. I love how Poppy King has remained true to her passion and channels her style and inspirations from the era's of Slim Keith (50's era socialite) and Joan from the ever popular television segment Mad Men.. ( I love Joan and her style too xox).

Poppy King admits that her own personal style is a combination of "retro-glam, with a modern twist", she 'mixes era's with influences'. Her signature red lip pout, defines this unique and memorable Poppy King style.

And so, I say this with my perfect pout, to all the women draped in their Alexander Wang ensembles, swinging with their Chloe or Hermes bags, and striding effortlessly in their Manolo Blahnik's, there is without a doubt, that amongst all these larger than life applications to one's personal style, that there is also the presence of Lipstick Queens' newest family member... dubbed 'Jean Queen' - "the ultimate lip color to wear with jeans".

Jean Queen, is a product name encompassing what its purpose is and where it's hailed from. Its purpose being, designed for those who are in search for that perfect pout, shine and sheen to enhance one of the must have essential fashion pieces in your wardrobe... the "Jean", yes ladies, I'm referring to the denim, the washed , the torn, the tight, the funnel, the flared, the skinny leg, the cut off, the short and the list goes on.. xo.

Imagine slipping on a pair of your favourite Jeans and having the age old dilemma of selecting the perfect shade of lippy to go with your jeans has been answered! The Lipstick Queen, has created Jean Queen for this exact convenience. The convenience of eliminating those days when you need to combine that perfect shade of lipstick or gloss with your perfect pair of jeans. Made up of a colour palette of sheer, shine and opaque pink that is suitable to all shades of denim and elements of the human race (skin tones, age and ethnicities).

When I first heard of the Jean Queen Lipstick, I absolutely loved the idea and the concept of it!, what a clever creative xoxo, tapping into the minds of all fashion lovers and coming out with the perfect product with elements of pout for your lips, and pizazz for your jeans.

My dear fashion and beauty lovers, this is one secret you simply can't keep to yourselves! shhh... tell everyone!

TOM GUNN - HIGH END IN THE SEASON OF SPRING & SUMMER 010/011

In the minds of the creators/ designers of Tom Gunn ( Gabrielle Thompson & Shannon Gunn ).. a vision for every woman to be draped in nothing short of but 'high end' foot forms. The season of Spring & Summer has encouraged this creative duo to present a collection continuous to their signature use and display of luxury textiles of leathers and skins.

The Tom Gunn label appears to not follow distinct 'trends'.. but instead, keeping to it's own unique quality of style. Fusions of leathers and skins; a myriad of shapes and depth is what brings together the great amount of detail in each Tom Gunn design.. xo.

Placing themselves in the high end bracket of the foot form industry of Australia, Tom Gunn shoes have the consistent reputation in catering for the shoe lovers who have that taste for the finer things in life.... or, who simply wish to invest in something which defines luxury.. where quality is never compromised, no matter what the price ($) is to pay xo.....confused????..below, are a few definitions of what it means to be in the 'high end' bracket of commodities;

High end: " appealing to sophisticated and discerning customers "
" can be referred to as upmarket products "
" a product that is one of the most expensive or advanced in a companys' product range ".

Tom Gunn = High End; designed in Australia & made in Italy xoxo.
