On a bad hair day - By Madhurima Nigam

I have been extremely busy lately as my new Radio show was launched last Sunday where I am interviewing Legends from our Indian film industry.

To add to my already busy life as a wife and mother...this role takes up a lot of time...so I end up with a bad hair day on most days.

A few quick tricks which have saved me lately.

* Safest of all where one can never go wrong is a nice high pony...goes with casuals and adds style to a formal look too. Use a little non greasy gel to smooth out the hair...Wow...you have a great sleek look.

* To carry the same look and make it a bit more formal just make a low bun...gives a diva look with all the formals specially the favorite LBD.

* I also use a lot of dry shampoo and quickly blow some air with the dryer and no one can make out that I have had no time to wash my hair. The dry shampoo also works like a styling product so the hair remains in place.

* My latest addition...my hair straightener which helps me to even out the bangs and curl up the ends of the length of the hair. I realized that when the hair is a little dirty the tongs tend to curl and hold for longer.

* Fastest way to get the curls is to take some mousse or even a leave in conditioner and mess up the ends...pin up the front of the hair and give it some height. Again a very nice clean formal look.

These are a few styles which have kept me looking fresh and always ready for a picture perfect look...hope you guys can try some and let me know how they worked for you.

Catch up soon...on a visit to my parents so super excited.

Madam AE - The Cusp of Fall in New York

To my Madam AE reader's,  here is a glimpse of my recent trip to New York.

There is nothing like experiencing the cusp of the fall weather in NYC.. roof top lanterns lighting up, the buzz of people sipping on latte's in Soho, conversations in Central Park, and the rare silence of Columbus Circle.. just after midnight xx    and then of course.... there is my favourite dessert place Serendipity..... a place of guilty goodness :)

Press conference and concerts, coupled with re-uniting with friends who were once residents of AU. The flavors of the New York air is truly a diverse mix of everyone simply doing their own thing........

The Black Suit - By Madhurima Nigam

knitted silk tie

Men often are happy with the same old boring black color.
I love to experiment with exciting bright colors like red, orange, rust, purple, fuchsia, green and even yellow.

It's not important to use these colors as the main element but just a little hint here and there also adds drama to your style. For example... wear a black boring suit and the usual white shirt...but the moment the fuchsia tie with little white polka dots peeps out it just creates a fun element.

lavender dotted pocket square

I often do these crazy combos...black shirt with thin pin stripes of red or mauve...sometimes if I want to go little more adventurous I even do my thin pleats with purple on a black shirt.

Just a colored pocket or a lapel or even the inseam adds such a mystery.

So take out those boring black stuff and cut them up and add some color and see there you go...a brand new bright you...have fun!

Healthy Lifestyle - with Simran Mathew

If only someone told me as a teenager that, Simi you are beautiful just the way you are, you need to get healthy & fit not skinny &anorexic. That you can eat right & not have to starve yourself.  That it’s alright to have pimples on your face because it does not define who you are as a young lady. Well no one did & that is why I am writing on this blog so that I can tell you everything no one told me when i was a young adult. This space a mum & daughter can read together, a husband &wife.  We together will make healthy a lifestyle, but I am also going to throw in little secrets that could just rock your world. And it all starts with the way you think.

My point of view on weight loss: You could try all your life to lose weight, try every diet, pay millions on surgery and still never be happy with yourself. First step to getting in shape is to look at yourself just the way you are and love that body cause in doing so you will learn to take care of it. You first love yourself!  After two kids, a donut stomach and alot of fat to burn i had to look into the mirror and like what I saw & when I did that - it brought so much freedom into my life. No pressure, just self-control& discipline with alot of fun&sweat I went after the challenge to get back in shape. And today I am exactly where I want to be :)

As a teenager who was dreaming of being a famous model I was constantly told I am too fat, bad skin, too skinny, too tall, too short… I was never beautiful for the industry,I was always criticised for the way I looked. I did have my good days but many bad ones. And today I get it , you want to be a model you got to be bold & courageous , if you are weak you will fall & that is why we see so many who do & many who end their lives too . With all my many insecurities & fears i still went onto becoming Miss India Asia Pacific 2004/2005 at 17 years old,I also won MTV Most Wanted Face: a year contract with MTV as a VJ. Now any woman in my place would of jumped to it but not me,I was just way too scared to leave my home and fly off to another city to pursue a dream. I was too afraid.

Now why share all this, well I want you to know me. I want to get personal with you. I want to share my story :) especially my failures & then my victories. So today I’m 29yrsold, with a handsome husband & two adorable boys almost 5 & 2 years old. I am everything I wanted to be as a woman. Today I understand not to obsess about my weight but to exercise, eat right & make my lifestyle healthy. I have understood the word balance. And I do just that,I live a balanced life of work exercise eat &play. I wake up and choose to have a happy day. I have realised that it’s all about the choices you make that will lead you to your destiny.  So in short to make healthy a lifestyle you start by making the right choices through your day, love your body, be inspired &it’s the small steps that will lead to bigger victories.
